Sharon Wilder

Sharon Wilder biography imageSharon Wilder comes to the Georgia Commission on Women with over thirty years of experience in the political arena. She has experience working for Georgia’s Senate Leadership and House of Representatives at the Georgia State Capitol, where she supported the Governor’s Floor Leaders under Governors Sonny Purdue and Nathan Deal. Sharon was instrumental in carrying out the Governor’s Legislative priorities while tracking legislation. Governor Perdue actually appointed her as Legislative Liaison to the Georgia Commission on Women. She interacted with most all State Agencies, lobbyist and Congressional staff to resolve constituent issues.

Prior to working with the Legislature, Sharon served as the Assistant Executive Director for the Henry County Development Authority, where she was dedicated to advancing Henry County’s existing business and industry as well as bringing in new business to the area. While promoting Henry County and working in economic development, she reported to the Henry County Board of Commissioners and the Henry County Chamber of Commerce. Her duties included preparing and maintaining an annual budget for the Development Authority. She also researched grant opportunities and aided in writing grant proposals.

A native of Henry County, Sharon was the first woman inducted into the Henry County Rotary Club. She has received several honors including, Outstanding Young Woman of America (1991) and Volunteer of the Year Award for the American Heart Association. She currently serves on the Ways & Means Committee of the McDonough Women’s Club and is an active member of the Henry County Republican Party.

Sharon retired from the State Senate in 2018 and is privileged to serve the Georgia Commission on Women assisting to advance their initiatives.
