Elizabeth P. Klemann of Albany, was appointed to the Georgia Commission on Women by Governor Sonny Perdue. She serves as Vice-Chair of the International Committee, is a member of the Health Committee and the Committee on the Arts.
Klemann is a graduate of Agnes Scott College with a BA Degree in French and a minor in History. She has studied at Universite de Strasbourg in France, and at Darton College and Albany State University. She is a businesswoman whose professional experience includes being President of The Resource Connector, Inc., an Albany based public relations company. She also organized an employee leasing company with a focus on providing personnel for health care professionals. Active in the Chamber of Commerce and fluent in both French and German languages, she has promoted international business in Albany, and behind the Iron Curtain. She received an Award of Excellence from Albany Chamber of Commerce for her work. She has been a classroom teacher, teaching all ages from kindergarten through adulthood. She developed a live, interactive distance learning program, a model which is still used in Virtual Classrooms in Georgia.
Her volunteer service to the community includes 10 years on the board of a shelter for abused women, Liberty House.She is on the board of Theatre Albany and the speaker's bureau of the Alzheimer's Association. She has served the Georgia Medical Association Political Action Committee, the Junior League of Albany, the American Heart Association and local and state Republican Party organizations. Her political experience includes volunteer and financial positions in state and local races for which she received recognition, and as an elected delegate to party conventions. The daughter, daughterinlaw, wife and mother of physicians, she has a special interest in details of the health care system, for which she is a dedicated advocate.
Elizabeth P. Klemann has been married for thirty eight years to Gilbert S. Klemann, M.D. They have two daughters, Katherine E. Klemann M.D., a physician, Gwen Klemann, a journalist, and a son who is also a physician, Gilbert P. Klemann, M.D. She is the proud grandmother of Rhys Liam Medcalfe and Sean Kieran Medcalfe.
